The Pen of a Ready Writer: Inspirational Memoir and Journal Writing

The Pen of a Ready Writer: Inspirational Memoir and Journal Writing

My favorite place to write is in my writing room that overlooks an old cherry tree growing outside the window; however, I’ve taken to keeping the curtains closed while I write so I don’t end up taking pictures of winged visitors instead of keeping my pen ready for prose landing in the branches of my brain.

For example: Today’s pictures were taken in my writing room (otherwise known as the “Woman Cave.”).

My other favorite place to write is in my car. I’d like to share something I wrote while waiting for my daughter (who was taking a piano lesson). By the way, she writes incredibly inspiring music. You can listen to my daughter playing one of her own compositions via the studio’s Facebook here:

Here’s the somewhat edited version of what I scribbled down that day:

Here I sit, wearing frumpy clothes in a family friendly car next to a Mercedes convertible, like the one I coveted in my younger years…

… a collage, made from magazine pictures, hangs on my twenty-two-year-old self’s fridge door; it’s a dream about being big enough to lay claim to the small car with the huge price tag.

…instead my womb swelled three times while my wallet waned. But my heart waxed bigger than a parking lot full of luxury sports cars, and it’s still rich in mama love as the old dream of fame fades like a rusting heap of metal.

My lot is gold next to the pittance I once strove for;

wisdom is priceless and eternal.

While the Mercedes awaits the day a tow-truck takes it to the junkyard in the sky, I now aim for the words: “Well done,” by a Master pleased for the road I chose to travel; for even if the world’s price tag on my existence is minimal, I’m grateful for the grace that maximizes my present joy in Christ; His Gold granted me eternal life.

Rust on, forgotten dream, because I’m resting—redeemed.

My heart is overflowing with

a good theme;

I recite my composition

concerning the king;

My tongue is the pen of a

ready writer.

Psalm 45:1 (NKJV)

Crowned with Goodness

My words bless the Lord

As I remember everything

He forgives, heals, and redeems

So my satisfied soul sings

My pen blesses the Lord

As I remember all His Love

For He crowns us with Goodness—

A foretaste of what’s to come.

Wendy ~ 2017

Bless the LORD, O my soul;

And forget not all His benefits:

Who forgives all your iniquities,

Who heals all your diseases,

Who crowns you with lovingkindness

 and tender mercies,

Who satisfies your mouth with good things,

So that your youth is renewed like the eagles.

Psalm 103: 1-5 (NKJV)

  • forgives
  • heals
  • redeems
  • crowns
  • satisfies

What more could I ask for?

God’s grants gold that glitters and gives eternally and graciously.

No rust and no bust.

  1. Such a beautiful and inspiring testimony, Wendy. Great listening and message… thank you for all the encouragement and hope you’ve shared. May the Lord continue to bless your work and wonderful poetry! Much love, Iris <3

  2. I love this, Wendy. And I love your daughter’s composing and playing. Wow. I think I must love writing when I hit the bed … because that’s when so much comes to me. 🙂 When I’m in the zone, especially. You are such a treasure. xoxo

    1. Thank you, dear Shelli. I love being in “the zone.” My mind’s usually in the zzz zone when my head hits the pillow; however, I usually read books before bed longer than I planned to. Blessings on your projects, sweet friend. xoxo

  3. I loved this post, and my husband and I listened to your daughter playing her composition. We both enjoyed it so much. It was so beautiful. We could feel so much. He said that it was one of those songs that need no words. <3

  4. Wendy, I love what you wrote that day in the car! Isn’t it funny how life can deepen our perspective and change what we think we want? I love how He works in our hearts and our lives and makes us more and more like Jesus. Your words and photos shout His glory!

I love a word in season... please feel free to add an apple to the bowl.
